        Jiaozhou Bay Tunnel in Qingdao starts at Tuandao Road in the north and ends between Beizhuang village and Houchawan village in Xuejia Island in the south. The tunnel is 7800m long, including 5550m-long underground tunnel (containing 3300m-long subsea section) and two 620m-long channel sections on both sides. The tunnel is a twin-tube tunnel consisting of 6 lanes. The designed driving speed of the tunnel is 80km/h. The altitude of the lowest point of the tunnel is -70.5m, which is 44.5m below the sea bottom. The minimum cover of the tunnel is 25m. The project is  project is jointly constructed by China Railway Tunnel Group and Qingdao Guoxin Industry Company Ltd. The construction of the tunnel was started in December 2006.
